President's Remarks
November 14, 2009
Welcome to the scientific sessions of the Sri Lanka Medical Association of North America, East Inc.
To further facilitate knowledge sharing among our colleagues, we have changed the format of this year’s Continuing Medical Education (CME).
This morning’s session will be a symposium entitled Burden of Cardiovascular Diseases among South Asians: Challenges and Opportunities, and will explore the devastating effects of cardiovascular diseases among people of South Asian ancestry. We have assembled a very knowledgeable faculty to cover a wide spectrum of evidence based scientific information. Our keynote speech on coronary artery disease among South Asians will be delivered by Dr. Bandula Karunaratne, and will be followed by a panel discussion on the topic. We dedicate this morning’s symposium to Chitra Kottahachchi, whose commitment, dedication, and hard work will live on forever in SLMANA.
The afternoon session is focused on Medical Business Updates.
A new addition to this year’s scientific session is the Research Poster Session, which highlights the research talent among our members.
I wish to thank the CME Committee and the chair Dr. Selvarani Richards for organizing and enhancing this intellectually stimulating CME session.
Enjoy the “state of the science” and “state of the art” symposium and the medical business updates!
